It’s no secret that Heinz is a leader in the condiment game. Heinz ketchup practically sets the standard for what a good, tangy, slightly sweet sauce for dipping fries and topping burgers should be. However, while it’s known as the best of the best in ketchup, the Pittsburgh-native brand is looking to prove that “it has to be Heinz” for every condiment.
In the United States, Heinz has a few lines of classic sauces, like mustard, relish, and barbecue sauce. It’s also known for its Heinz 57—you know, the one Jimmy Buffett sings about in “Cheeseburger in Paradise”—and flavorful mashups, like MayoChup, BuffaRanch, and Sweet KetChili.
Recently, Heinz has gotten even more adventurous with its flavors, launching Harissa Aioli and Black Garlic Ranch this past summer. After the success of those innovative, globally-inspired sauces, Heinz is going all in on with its new line: the Flavor Tour.
Heinz Debuts Flavor Tour Sauces
Heinz / Allrecipes
Heinz’s Flavor Tour line features three all-new condiments inspired by foods and sauces from around the world. This month, the brand is releasing Mexican-Inspired Street Corn, Korean-Inspired Sweet & Tangy BBQ, and Thai-Inspired Sweet Chili sauces.
Mexican-Inspired Street Corn is a creamy sauce reminiscent of elote’s bold topping. It’s made with chipotle, lime, and corn for a sweet, smoky sauce you can use to top tacos, pizza, grilled cheese, and more.
The Korean-Inspired Sweet & Tangy BBQ features spicy gochujang chili paste, doenjang soybean paste, and savory soy sauce to create an umami sauce perfect for recreating your Korean barbecue faves at home.
Lastly, Heinz’s Thai-Inspired Sweet Chili is a sweet and spicy sauce thanks to the balance of sriracha, sesame oil, and ginger. It will add a bright, tangy, spicy flavor to any dish, like cucumber salad, rice bowls, and bang bang shrimp.
Heinz’s new line of sauces is hitting nationwide retailer shelves now, but I had a chance to try them early. Here is my honest review.
My Honest Review of Heinz's Flavor Tour Sauces
I really like the design of these bottles—and Heinz chose correctly when it decided to use its first-ever drizzle lids on these sauces. It makes them easy to add to recipes, drizzle over foods, or serve as a dipping sauce.
In terms of taste, the Korean-Inspired Sweet & Tangy BBQ sauce turns a traditional barbecue sauce on its head with the spicy gochujang and extra umami soy sauce. It’s a great sauce for topping meats, like ribs, brisket, and meatballs.
Heinz’s Mexican-Inspired Street Corn condiment is creamy and is heavy on the chipotle flavor. The corn flavor is subtle, so I imagine it would easily get lost in whatever you’re eating with the sauce. However, when eaten on its own, the corn is definitely there. While this sauce works well on tacos or fries, my favorite use case is on a classic grilled cheese. The smokiness really elevates the cheesy flavor and takes the classic to a slightly spicier level.
My favorite of the three sauces is the Thai-Inspired Sweet Chili. It is the perfect balance of sweet and spicy flavors in a sauce that has a similar consistency to sriracha. It is delicious on rice bowls and Heinz also recommends using it in a stir-fry, on chicken, or even as a dipping sauce for dumplings.
If this is just a taste of what Heinz has in store for its Flavor Tour lineup, I can't wait to see what's next.
