Every year, Allrecipes Allstars give us the rundown on their favorite grocery items. Last year, one unique product stood out to the group as the “Best Condiment for Everything.” And no, it’s not mayonnaise–although, the Duke’s versus Hellmann’s debate has sparked a lot of conversation among our readers. The go-to condiment is actually a barbecue sauce, whose reach goes far beyond slathering on a rack of ribs. It can be used on everything from pizza to noodles, and even eggs, making it a must-have kitchen item for foodies.

Now, Aldi is selling this top-tier condiment, and we have no doubt that our Allstars are already filling their carts.

Bachan’s Japanese Barbecue Sauce Is Now at Aldi

Bachan’s Japanese Original Barbecue Sauce and Bachan’s Sweet Honey Japanese Barbecue Sauce are landing on shelves at Aldi. Previously, it has been available at various retailers, including Costco, but now shoppers can grab a bottle while they browse this month’s Aldi finds and shop the Super Bowl sale.

Bachan’s website describes this versatile condiment as “Teriyaki-ish” and “Umami-full.” The full-bodied dark sauce has notes of soy, ginger, garlic, and mirin, giving it a deep savory taste that goes well with a number of dishes. It can be used as a marinade, as a shortcut to stir-fry sauce, or as the finishing touch on a recipe that needs a flavor boost.

If you’ve been enjoying Aldi’s $3 dupe, Burman’s Asian Style Japanese BBQ Sauce, you’ll notice that Bachan’s has a thinner consistency in comparison. If you prefer a thick sauce, such as one used to coat glazed chicken thighs or lo mein noodles, simply allow a portion of the sauce to simmer until it’s the ideal thickness. Alternatively, you can make a cornstarch slurry and whisk in a few teaspoons at a time to reach your desired consistency.

Bachan's Japanese Barbecue Sauce is available now on Aldi shelves. The 17-ounce bottle will run you about $8. And in case you miss the storage notes, the sauce is shelf-stable but only while sealed. Once opened, it will need to be kept in the refrigerator to avoid spoilage.

Be sure to snag a bottle on your next grocery run and see why it’s such a hit among the Allstars.
