Key Takeaways

  • A beloved Costco bakery item is back in the warehouse store, and fans call it "dangerously decadent."
  • The fan-favorite cake is even on sale at some Costco locations right now.

Costco’s bakery has a long history of releasing fan favorites, from classics like its famous pumpkin pie and “11 out of 10” croissants to newer items like the irresistibly buttery Garlic Parmesan Dinner Rolls. But one beloved cake is back on shelves—and fans can’t get enough of it.

Costco's Caramel Tres Leches Bar Cake

As a lover of all things tres leches, you can imagine how excited I was to see that Costco has a Caramel Tres Leches Bar Cake in its bakery section.

“This cake will melt in your mouth,” said Laura Jayne Lamb, creator of the popular Costco fan Instagram account @costcohotfinds. She also says that it will pair well with a cup of coffee. While a traditional tres leches cake is a sponge cake soaked in sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and cream, Costco’s version is slightly different.

Costco’s take on the classic dessert features two layers of soaked sponge cake with a caramel custard mousse between the layers, topped with a light layer of caramel sauce. In my opinion, this version looks like a cross between Mexican flan and Tres Leches Cake, and I’m all for it.

The bar cake appears to be a seasonal offering at Costco, and its availability depends on the location. But if you see it on shelves, it's safe to say that it's worth trying.

On Reddit, there are many threads dedicated to the bakery item, with one user writing, “Took all my willpower to buy just one.” Another commenter replied “It’s very moist and creamy. Dangerously decadent.” On another thread, one Reddit user wrote “I got several of these for my wedding and they were a hit! I love tres leches cake, and this definitely did the trick for me.”

The wedding-worthy cake is available at Costco locations nationwide for $17.99, but it’s even on sale at some locations at the moment. There’s never been a better time to try it, so hurry before it flies off the shelves again.
