Produced by a family-owned bakery in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Original Marshmallow Sandwich has been winning hearts since 1917. Over the years, Moon Pie has introduced a variety of fun flavors. Banana, Vanilla, Strawberry, and Salted Caramel are mainstays, while Coconut, Lemon, Pumpkin Spice, and Once in a Blue Moon Blueberry make the occasional seasonal cameo.
But here’s the thing: New flavors don’t come out of the iconic Tennessee bakery all that often. Aside from the Birthday flavor announced in February, Moon Pie hasn’t created a new flavor in quite a while, making this launch all the more legendary.
Moon Pie Releases New Key Lime Mini Moon Pies
Moon Pie’s newest flavor is inspired by one of the South’s favorite summertime desserts: Key lime pie. It’s creamy, tangy, and just what a hot Southern summer calls for—a treat that’s cool, refreshing, and lighter than a scoop of ice cream.
Instead of the traditional chocolate shell, these Mini Moon Pies are coated in a pale green, natural lime-flavored coating. Inside, you’ll still find that signature, fluffy marshmallow filling sandwiched between scalloped graham cracker cookies. It’s a Key lime pie, but reimagined in snack cake form. And it’s a fun and flavorful twist that feels right at home in the Moon Pie lineup—old-fashioned, a little quirky, and full of Southern charm.
“KEY LIME MOON PIES,” one fan shouted online. “Ohhhhh myyyyyy gawwwwwwd! I need these in my life,” said another.
There’s just one catch, and it might explain why you haven’t seen these Moon Pies everywhere just yet. The Key Lime Mini Moon Pies are exclusive to Publix, so you won’t find them at other stores.
For some, that’s actually a relief. “Thank God there are no Publix near me—I would eat a hundred of those,” one Reddit commenter joked.
