Key Takeaways

  • Oreo is releasing a limited-edition flavor in the U.S. for the first time.
  • The flavor was originally launched in Japan in 2020 and became a fan favorite.
  • Only 1,000 packs are available exclusively through a sweepstakes on Oreo's website.

There are plenty of cookies out there, but Oreos will always be a classic. I’ve been loyal to the original (and the Double Stuf) since childhood, but over the years, Oreo has really expanded its cookie kingdom.

From Double Chocolate Cakesters to S’mores Oreos, and even Auntie Anne’s new Oreo Topped Nuggets, the brand keeps finding ways to surprise us. Heck, even Post Malone got in on the action to help launch what he called the “Best Oreo Ever.”

Now, Oreo is bringing a beloved international flavor to U.S. shelves—and even a purist, original-flavor fan like me is excited for this one.

Oreo’s Cherry Blossom Matcha Thins Are Finally in the U.S.

This spring, Oreo is releasing a limited-edition flavor as part of its small-batch Thins line: Cherry Blossom Matcha. The cookies pair the brand’s signature thin chocolate wafers with a smooth cherry blossom matcha creme filling in pretty shades of pink and green.

Although it’s new to the States, this flavor isn’t necessarily new to the world. Oreo originally launched the Sakura and Matcha Thins in Japan back in April 2020. At the time, fans flooded social media with comments like “I want those!” and “DYING to try them.” One hopeful fan even wished they’d make their way to the U.S.—and now, that wish is finally coming true.

However, there is a catch. Only 1,000 packs of the Cherry Blossom Matcha Oreos will be available in the U.S., and you won’t find them in stores. Instead, they’ll be up for grabs through a limited-time sweepstakes on Oreo’s website.

To score a box, head to the website between April 16 and May 9 and enter the sweepstakes. It’s first come, first served, so if you’re craving a bite of this Japan-inspired flavor, don’t wait too long to throw your name in the cookie jar.
