Summer is in full swing and the weather here in California has been just beautiful. We’ve had a few insanely hot days, but for the most part it’s been mild temperatures and cool breezes. I’ve been doing a lot of outdoor entertaining to fully take advantage of the season. One of my favorite things to do is invite family and friends over for appetizers and drinks. Everyone loves when I serve this watermelon agua fresca.

Enjoy this agua fresca with some of my summer grilling favorites like carne asada tacos, grilled pork chops, grilled flank steak and Mexican street corn!

Watermelon Agua Fresca Ingredients

To make this watermelon agua fresca you will need cubes of watermelon, lime juice, granulated sugar and water. I also recommend having garnishes like course sugar, mint sprigs, lime slices or watermelon wedges.

How Do You Make Watermelon Agua Fresca?

This drink is a combination of fresh watermelon, sugar, lime juice and water that you blend together for a sweet and refreshing drink. The first step in making this watermelon agua fresca recipe is to place watermelon cubes, lime juice, sugar and water in a blender. Blend everything together at high speed until smooth. Strain the watermelon mixture into a pitcher. Add water to the pitcher and stir everything together. Garnish and enjoy your drink!

Tips For The Perfect Agua Fresca

  • To strain the pulp and fiber out of your drink, you can use a strainer or a wire mesh colander. Simply place the strainer over your pitcher and carefully pour the liquid through it.
  • If your watermelon isn’t as sweet as you’d like, you can add more sugar. Add 1 tablespoon at a time and stir, until you reach the desired sweetness level.
  • To get a sugared rim, place 2 tablespoons of sanding sugar on a plate. Dip the rim of your glass in a bowl of water. Then dip the wet glass rim in the sugar and rotate the glass. Turn the glass upright and fill it with your drink!
  • For a nice presentation make square ice cubes in a square silicone ice cube tray. Place the ice cubes in the glass and pour the watermelon agua fresca over the ice cubes.

Quick Tip

Look for a super ripe watermelon for the best flavor.
