Key Takeaways

  • Prego has five new jarred sauces, including two cheese varieties and three tomato-based versions coming to stores.
  • The updated versions of classic favorite flavors (reminiscent of Rao's sauces) make for an easy store-bought shortcut to stock in the pantry.

What are your time-saving pantry staples? Is it boxed macaroni and cheese or a packet of French onion soup mix? How about cornbread mix? For me, it’s a jar of sauce. If I’m planning to make pasta, oftentimes, I’ll stock up on canned tomatoes to make my own. However, when my schedule gets off track, there’s nothing like having a jar of store-bought pasta sauce on hand to save the day.

Jarred sauce is not only convenient but also incredibly versatile. In addition to stirring it into a pot of spaghetti, you can use it to make meatball sandwiches, add it to soup, or as a hearty casserole base. Whether you want a sauce that tastes garden fresh or one filled with deep, slow-roasted flavor, there’s an option for every palate.

Soon, shoppers will have even more to choose from because five new pasta sauces are landing on shelves this summer.

Prego’s Cheesy New Sauce Lineup

Prego has announced it’s adding two new Cheddar cheese sauces plus three creamy tomato-based sauces to its lineup, giving fans more ways than ever to top their pasta.

Prego Creamy Cheddar Cheese Sauce combines real Cheddar cheese and fresh cream to create a pourable sauce without the need to make a roux. Use it for a speedy two-ingredient macaroni and cheese, to top fries, or to add a cheesy spin to your next veggie-filled casserole. For a smoky twist, Prego Cheesy Bacon Cheddar Cheese Sauce fits the bill. It’s the perfect sauce swap for ranch chicken pasta and is sure to taste great spooned over steamed broccoli or drizzled on top of a baked potato.

Prego’s new trio of blush sauces, also known as pink sauces, combine the delightfully acidic taste of tomatoes with a distinct creaminess. Each jar has a unique flavor that can be paired with a range of dishes, making them ideal for stocking up.

Prego Creamy Tomato Sauce with Ricotta Cheese puts the rich flavor of ricotta at the forefront, making it a no-brainer for skillet lasagna and baked ziti. Prego Creamy Tomato Sauce with Garlic, however, is ideal for bolder recipes that can use a pop of garlicky flavor, like chicken cacciatore and stuffed bell peppers.

For those who like a little heat in their sauce, Prego Spicy Vodka Sauce combines the creamy taste of ricotta cheese with crushed red pepper for a sauce that can make even a simple bowl of penne taste like a restaurant-worthy meal. And if it reminds you of a certain fan-favorite Vodka Arrabbiata, you’re not alone. Looks like the brand is trying to give Rao’s $8-plus jar a run for its money (for a fraction of the price).

All five of Prego’s new sauces are now available on Amazon for less than $4 and are expected to roll out to retailers nationwide in June. In the meantime, you can also try whipping up a batch of the World’s Best Pasta Sauce or our five-ingredient Cheddar sauce for all your pasta needs.
