Some salty-sweet combinations just work. When Courteney Cox bakes up the best chocolate chip cookies, it’s the sprinkling of sea salt that puts them over the top. Then, there’s the new Tillamook salted vanilla ice cream, which fans love so much they’ve been writing emails to the co-op, pleading to make it a permanent flavor. And who could be upset with the salted caramel craze? Although the trend has calmed down a bit, salted caramel treats are thankfully now a permanent part of our culinary landscape.
Last year, Oreo teamed up with food court staple, Auntie Anne's, to trial a new sweet and salty pretzel treat. It proved so successful that they're now releasing it nationwide for all of us to enjoy.
Auntie Anne’s New Oreo Topped Nuggets
We know what you’re thinking. Oreos and pretzels? That’s right. Auntie Anne’s new Oreo Topped Nuggets feature the chain’s fan-favorite baked pretzel nuggets, drizzled with cookies-and-creme icing, and topped with crushed Oreos. It’s rich and creamy and may be teetering on the edge of overindulgence, but as snack insider @snackolator aptly puts it: “It’s a scientific fact that adding OREO cookies to any food item makes you want it 10x more and this one proves it!”
One of @snackolator's followers confirmed, "Omg YES!!! I tried these last year when they were testing and they are so good."
The Oreo Topped Nuggets were initially tested last year in select Auntie Anne’s locations. To promote the treat, the pretzel chain shared a video on its TikTok, where fans immediately took to the comments section to vocalize their approval. “Yes no questions asked,” a fan simply said. Another TikToker who tried the Topped Nuggets added, “They were pure heaven.”
The Oreo Topped Nuggets are rolling out to stores right now and are available until the end of April, or while supplies last. We’re not sure if there will be more Topped Nuggets to come, but given how popular the cookie crumble-topped Confetti Pretzel Nuggets were and how delicious the Oreo ones sound, we’re already looking forward to what’s coming next.
