Some flavor combinations are so good that there’s no reason to tweak them. Strawberries and cream is one of those—from strawberry shortcake to strawberry pavlova, the countless recipes around the world that riff on this classic combination are a testament to how well the juicy, sweet fruit pairs with luscious, melt-in-your-mouth whipped cream.
If there’s one strawberry-and-cream dessert that earns the crown for being the perfect combination of fruity, airy, and light, it might be strawberry sponge cake. And now, Costco is selling a version of the classic dessert—but you’ll only find it in one part of the country.
Costco's New Fujiya Strawberry Sponge Cake
Costco fan @costco.so.obsessed recently shared a post detailing the new find from her local warehouse store. The Fuijiya Strawberry Sponge Cake features 10 pre-cut slices of fluffy chiffon sponge cake layered with whipped cream and macerated strawberries. “If you see this at Costco, it’s a must-buy,” the Instagrammer shared.
"I just had a slice today and it's really, really good! So light and creamy and not too sweet," shared another Costco shopper.
One TikToker gave the dessert a 10/10, adding that the “cake was just like the ones I’ve tried in Tokyo.” Considering the product is made by Fujiya, a Japanese confectionary chain that has been around for more than a century, it’s not surprising to hear that the cake tops expectations.
The pre-sliced dessert is an ideal treat to have in your freezer in the event there are any last-minute guests, or if you need something just to help you beat the afternoon slump.
There is one downside, however. According to the brand's website, the product is currently only available at select Costcos in Northern California. Fans are keeping their fingers crossed that Costco will begin rolling out the cake nationwide—perhaps just in time for summer, when nothing is more satisfying than a light, refreshing, and cold slice of creamy, strawberry cake.
