If you ask anyone who’s ever eaten at Jimmy John’s what makes the sandwich chain unique, they’d likely say the fresh, pillowy bread, the cold deli-style subs, and that everyone is “freaky fast.” Since it opened in 1983 with just four sandwiches on the menu, Jimmy John’s has built its empire on cold subs made with fresh ingredients and a speedy delivery unlike any other.
Today, Jimmy John’s menu has expanded well past its original subs—the Pepe, Totally Tuna, Turkey Tom, and Vito—to include wraps, Jimmy Chips, and even sandwiches made with a pickle bun. However, what you still haven’t found at the restaurant are hot subs.
For years, fans have begged Jimmy John’s to join the other sub chains and offer both cold and hot sandwiches on the menu. Now, after months of development and ensuring every restaurant is equipped with the appliances to make hot subs “freaky fast,” Jimmy John’s is finally releasing Toasted Sandwiches.
Jimmy John's Releases New Toasted Sandwiches
“No one does sandwiches like Jimmy John’s, and while we may be fashionably late to the Toasted Sandwich party, we’ve made sure they’re worth the wait,” said Darin Dugan, the Chief Brand Marketing Officer of Jimmy John’s.
Beginning March 3, Jimmy John’s will offer three new toasted options: Chicken Bacon Ranch, Roast Beef & Cheddar, and the Ultimate Italian.
Jimmy John's
The Chicken Bacon Ranch sub features chicken, bacon, provolone, tomato, lettuce, mayo, ranch dressing, and ranch seasoning on French bread. Jimmy John’s Roast Beef & Cheddar includes roast beef, bacon, Cheddar, horseradish sauce, fried onions, tomato, lettuce, onion, and mayo on French Bread. Lastly, its Ulitmate Italian is just that with capocollo, salami, ham, bacon, Parmesan, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, oregano-basil seasoning, oil, and vinegar on French bread.
Jimmy John’s knows fans have been waiting a while for this launch, so to thank them for their patience, the chain is giving away $1 million worth of toasted sandwiches. On March 4—what Jimmy John’s has named “Toasted Tuesday”—fans can score one free Toasted Sandwich when they order via Jimmy John’s app or website. Simply log in to your Jimmy John’s account (or sign up for a free one) and use the promo code “ToastedTuesday” at checkout.
You’ll have another chance to score free Jimmy John’s subs later this spring, when the brand embarks on a five-city tour in its Toasted Truck. Jimmy John’s will stop in Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, and Lexington, Ky., to hand out free samples of its Toasted Sandwiches and merch. You can find exact dates and locations on Jimmy John’s social media.
I tried Jimmy John’s new Toasted Sandwiches before they hit menus—here is my honest review.
My Honest Review of Jimmy John's New Toasted Sandwiches
As much as I love my #16 Club Lulu order from Jimmy John’s, sometimes I’m craving a warm sub. And let’s face it: Some sandwiches are just better when they’re toasted. So, I was incredibly excited to try Jimmy John’s new Toasted Sandwiches.
I tried all three sandwiches, and my overall takeaway is that Jimmy John’s delicious French bread is just as tasty when it’s warmed up and toasty. I also really appreciate that while the bread, meats, and cheeses are warm, the vegetables are not. There’s nothing worse than biting into limp lettuce or a slightly too-warm tomato when eating a hot sub; however, I also hate having to sacrifice fresh ingredients to eat a toasty sub. So, Jimmy John’s makes it a win-win.
Jimmy John’s new Ultimate Italian is essentially the classic Vito sandwich, just warmed up. And, in my opinion, all Italian subs should be served warm, so I like the toasted version better than the OG. It’s a really delicious, classic Italian hoagie.
The Chicken Bacon Ranch sub has a nice chicken and bacon flavor that’s complemented by the ranch. We all know Jimmy John’s fans love the Kickin’ Ranch, but the regular is amazing, too. Pro tip: add the Kickin’ Ranch Jimmy Chips to this sub for an extra zing and crunchy bite that will take the sandwich out of this world.
My personal favorite sub, which might be controversial, is the Roast Beef & Cheddar. Maybe it’s because it reminds me of the classic Arby’s sandwich or maybe it’s simply because the roast beef and horseradish sauce are incredibly delicious. Either way, I could have eaten that sub all night long—and I’ll certainly be ordering it again. Plus, I like that the Roast Beef & Cheddar sub has veggies on it since that’s not something you always see from a roast beef sandwich, and it cuts down on the hearty, over-the-top meatiness.
Jimmy John’s new Toasted Sandwiches are a slam dunk. Say what you will about how long it took the hot subs to come to menus, but it was worth the wait.
